Loved and missed by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David had a long successful career as a union representative. First, as Ironworker, building his way up through the ranks in short time coming from a structural steelworker to the president of the Ironworker local 721. In no time became the Business Manager and Finance secretary for the Toronto Building Trades Council. David was responsible for 40,000 Ironworkers, which he later had to resign from. In turn, made his way back home to Newfoundland. At this time he started up a wreaker, automotive repair business and Honda Motorcycle dealership. No flies on David, he was a go-getter. He is a union man who found a new venture, hooked a local job being a fisheries union representative in the UFCW. In the summers taking his last three children on summer trips when he got the chance, local swimming holes and good old folk festival. He also much enjoyed it when he could escort his children and their teammates to sporting events. David encouraged his children to put in a good day’s work, get up with the birds and start the day. Known to support local business. In his later years after his children were grown, they left home to start their own. Joe’s Cafe being his spot to go. David would go for his cup of tea and a home-cooked meal, sit in and catch up on local gossip. David will be officially laid to rest next to his father on August 23, 2021, in The First Pentecostal Cemetery. All friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers, we ask friends and family to make donations to either the Status of Women Council in Corner Brook or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. The former being about making reparations. It is with deep sadness that the family of the late GEORGE EDWARD BECK of St. Lawrence, NL, announces his passing on June 25, 2021 at the age of 85, after a brief hospitalization. George loved his family deeply and is survived by his children; George (Lisa) Brampton, ON; Wayne, St. Lawrence, NF; Diane Beck-Loewe (Peter), Burnaby, BC; Ronald, French River, ON; James (Carrie), Brampton, ON; Glenn, St. John’s, NF; 11 grandchildren & 6 great-grandchildren. George came from a large loving family with beloved brothers Eric (Diana), Earl (Stella), Owen, Sam (Christine), Arnold (Christine), and sisters he adored, Addie Hatcher, & Viola Beck-Heisler; his cherished in-laws, the Turpin clan, nieces and nephews, and many friends who were counted as family. George was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Catherine (Kay), son Eric, his parents, Chesley and Eliza Beck, and parents-in-law, Alfred & Charlotte Turpin, brother, Chesley Jr. George was a gentle man, with a large footprint, leading many to follow him and Kay to Ontario in their younger years. There was always room at his table, room in his home and room in his heart for anyone that needed it. Sometimes this generosity resulted in a few love matches and marriages as well! He was a happy man who valued family above everything else, always finding the silver lining, and making things joyful. He worked extremely hard, overcoming steep hurdles, not only surviving but thriving. He gave so much of himself, not only as the family patriarch, but to his friends and the community, be it as a hockey coach, a fundraiser, a mentor, or a leader. He was also able to take and follow directions very well, being dragged into all sorts of event fundraising, dances and party planning, with Kay at the helm. He simply never stopped moving. George was a humble man, yet so proud of his children, always supporting them and finding the time to be with them. It was such a joy to see the sheer delight he found in his grandchildren and great grandchildren – he was the best baby rocker! George was always the last to speak, because he was interested in listening to what you had to say first. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke you listened, because he was a wise man, with wisdom far beyond any piece of paper. We will miss him deeply, but we take comfort that he will be happy to be reunited with his beloved Kay and we know that he will continue to watch over us as we continue to love and remember him. In accordance with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will be accepting visitors at St. Matthews Anglican Church on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 with times and COVID regulations updated closer to this date, followed by a funeral service at St. Matthews Anglican Church on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 11:00am. Working within health guidelines and travel restrictions, it is important to the family to gather together to share in their memories. The family would like to thank the staff at the Burin Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion given to George recently. We would also like to thank our cherished brother Wayne who has devoted the last several years to our father, giving him love and support and making memories for us all to treasure. In George’s memory, donations can be made to the US Memorial Hospital in St. Lawrence, NL. Mail: Box 398, Memorial Drive, St. Lawrence, NL A0E 2V0 Online: The Burin Peninsula Health Care Foundation Inc. Family and friends making a donation in Mr. Beck’s memory can simply select “US Memorial – St. Lawrence” from the drop down list, and the foundation will ensure that all donations made online in his memory go directly towards projects at that particular healthcare center. https://memorials.wisemansfh.ca/george-beck/4379598/index.php

David Wilson Hart passed away peacefully on 03 February 2021, at home in Botwood, Newfoundland, at the age of 75. He was born on 04 May 1945 in Grantown-on-Spey, Inverness-shire, Scotland, to Mathilda Kemp (Bunty) Anderson of Aviemore, Inverness-shire, Scotland, and James Everett Hart of Botwood, Newfoundland. In the same year, Bunty and Jim emigrated along with their young sons, Everett and Dave, to Newfoundland and made their home there. He met Charlotte Patricia (Pat) Smith in Toronto, and they later married on 03 August 1968, at St. Cuthbert’s United Church in Toronto. They adopted their son, James David (Jimmy) Hart, and a year later were blessed with a daughter, Kemp Patricia Hart. Dave worked as a high steel tradesman and was part of the crew that built the TD bank centre in Toronto, Ontario. He also appeared in a CBC Canadian film that highlighted steel workers, where he played “himself!” Some of his passions included boating  on “Hart’s Content,” moose-hunting and fishing with family and friends. He loved playing his 12-string guitar and “ugly stick,” enjoying a sing-song, and dancing a “Newfie jig.” Born with many musical talents he shared his heart through music. After retiring, Dave never slowed down, helping family and friends with their renovations, utilizing his skills as a finishing carpenter. Then, fulfilling his dream, he headed back to Newfoundland in 2015. He bought a cabin by the sea as well as a new truck, and shared “life on the Rock” with Beverley Gosse-Kinden. Dave leaves behind his partner of many years, Patricia, and their two children, Jimmy and Kemp Hart, along with a granddaughter, Kelsey Emma Rumley. Also leaving behind his brothers, Everett (Colleen), Robert (Jean), Cecil (Ruth), Cyril (Gail), and sisters Mary (Jack), and Jeanette Hart, as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours, including close friend Gladstone Mercer (Hazel). We will miss him greatly, but are comforted that he is with his mom and dad. https://hoskinsfuneralhomes.ca/tribute/details/2520/David-Hart/obituary.html
