Welding Update

Due to circumstances beyond our control the welding shop will be reducing its capacity to comply with new provincial government restriction (RE: COVID-19).

We will be limiting CWB testing sessions to 8 people with two time slots on Thursday.

Practice or testing times will be limited and with a mandatory requirement that you call ahead for booking a time slot to meet the new restriction on class sizes.

Priority will be given to members that require CWB testing.

We will no longer allow walk-ins as the union hall and training centre are under lock down.

November 20th, 2020

Local 721 is concerned about the health of our members, their families and the broader community in which we all live and work.
Effective Monday November 23rd, 2020 12:01AM the Local and Training Centre will close its doors to any and all foot Traffic. Only scheduled training courses based on the modified class sizes through the Training centre will occur in compliance with the recently announced lockdown requirements by the Ontario Provincial Government for the city of Toronto area
As a result, we urge our members to take reasonable precautions to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. Symptoms of COVID-19 may include things such as fever, cough and difficulty breathing and its symptoms may resemble a cold or the flu.
There are many sources of public health information on COVID-19. We urge you to listen to the advice of public health experts and to follow their directions. As the public health response to this issue may change rapidly, we recommend getting your advice from sources such as the public health website for Ontario and the Ontario Ministry of Health website.
If you are concerned that you may have COVID-19 or to have been exposed to it please contact your primary care provider, local public health unit or Telehealth (1-866-797-000).
If you receive direction from your doctor or public health, please comply with it, including any directions to self-isolate/not attend work. If this happens, please inform your employer.
We encourage members in these circumstances to take reasonable precautions to avoid attending work and spreading illness. If you are sick or if you were exposed to someone who has COVID-19 then please inform your employer.
It is also possible that your employer may be concerned that you are exhibiting symptoms and ask you to not work even if you feel you are well enough to work. If you receive such a direction please comply with it. If you think the direction was unfair or wrong then please contact Local 721.
In the short-term we ask that members communicate on Local Union issues as much as possible without physical attendance at Local 721’s offices. We are reachable by phone and email and will update our website www.iw721.org as further information becomes available and we ask that you check for updates from us.

Death Notice for Devin Shawn Hill

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Devin Hill, a result of a boating accident last Saturday.  Devin was a member of our Local 721 for the last 13 years and has been an Ironworker for 17 years.

He will be resting at his mother’s home @ 7137 Townline Road, Six Nations for visitation after 6pm on Thursday August 3.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday August 5, 2017 @ 3pm at RHB Anderson Funeral Home Ltd


Death Notice of James Taylor

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of James (Jimbo) Taylor.  James was a lifetime member of Local 721 since 1966.

Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 KING ST. WEST (905-721-1234) on Thursday June 29th from 3pm until time of CELEBRATION OF LIFE in the Chapel @ 4pm.

It is with deep sadness to inform the members of Chris Sandy Sr.’s passing.  Chris was a life-long Ironworker of Local 736/721 since 1970.  Chris was a man who helped alot of people, found ways to help even when he couldn’t and was a firm believer in helping pave the way for our young people.

Death Notice for John (Joao) DeAguiar

It is with great sadness to inform the members of the death of John DeAguiar.  John has been a member of Local 721 since 1979.  He retired back in 2012 and since then has worked here at the Hall as a Custodian.

It is with deep regret to inform you of the passing of Gerard “Gerry” Patrick.  In his 70th year, Gerry was a long time welder of Local 721 and Local 736 in Bruce Power.

Death Notice for Jack Coleman Townsend

It is with deep regret to inform you of the passing of Jack Townsend.  He was 23 years old and had been with Local 721 since his initiation in 2011.

He is survived by his father, Kirby Townsend, stepmother Dawn Peel, mother Carrie Walker and siblings Kirk, Annie (Ryan), Tyler, Rory, Lindsey and Perry.
